What is the most important part of your online business? It's your list! I'm sure you've heard it before and I can assure you that it is true, "The money is in the list."

For nearly 20 years I tried to make money online without a list and it just doesn't happen. No matter what sales pitch you are reading, if they tell you that you don't need a list to make money, they are not being completely honest. Yes, you can make money without a list but VERY LITTLE!

99% of the time you will be lucky to just break even if you don't have a list. In other words, if you spend $300.00 to send 1000 visitors to an affiliate website, and the affiliate commission you earn per sale is $150.00 and if you had 2 sales you would break even. However, it is highly unlikely that you would get even 2 sales if any.

Why? Because multiple surveys over the years have proven that people need to see something at least 7 times before they will buy. And there is no way that you can show someone something 7 times if you don't have a way to contact them, like their email address.

YOU MUST HAVE A LIST TO SUCCEED!

Success is not breaking even by spending $300.00 on advertising and getting back $300.00 in sales. Success is spending $300.00 on advertising and getting back $3,000.00 or more in sales and you cannot do that without a list.

I spent literally thousands of dollars over the years buying courses on how to make money online and NONE of them delivered what they promised. The one thing missing that most of them don't even mention is you NEED TO BUILD A LIST!

And then, once you learn to build a list, which simply consists of getting traffic to a lead capture page and trading something of value (lead magnet) for their email address, you need to know how to talk to that list to ensure a good open rate, and most importantly, you need to know how to monetize that list.

After all, what good is a list if it doesn't make you money, right?

And of all the money I spent on money-making courses, I also spent at least $500 on list building courses. It wasn't until I found a mentor to teach me how to become a Solo-Ad vendor whom I paid $3,000.00 for his one-on-one coaching that I learned to build a list super fast and monetize that list by selling traffic to others. The only problem with that is, as a Solo-Ad vendor, depending on how much traffic you are selling, you have to inundate your list with at least 1 to 3 emails per day just trying to get them to click on the link in the email that will send them to the customer's website which will count as a click sold, and the open rate becomes very low so you have to continually be adding fresh leads to your list and deleting the ones that stop opening your emails.

As a Solo-Ad vendor, when I quit bringing in fresh leads to my list for a while, my open rate got down to between 2 and 6 percent. That means that only 2 to 6 people out of every 100 were opening my emails. That is a terrible open rate. Nevertheless, selling traffic to others is a lucrative business as long as you are bringing in a continual flow of fresh leads to offer your customers.

Then I decided to build another list that I would send only quality content to. No more trying to get them to just click a link but instead give them good info that would be helpful to them. The open rate in that list is a steady 40 to 60 percent. So having a small list with a high open rate is far more valuable than having a large list with a very low open rate.

For example, if you have a list of 100,000 people and an open rate of 2 percent, that's 2000 people opening your emails. On the other hand, if you have a list of only 10,000 people and an open rate of 60 percent, that's 6000 people opening your emails.

At Aweber, a list of 10,000 subscribers costs $69 per month whereas a list of 100,000 costs over $700 per month, so it's easy to see that a high open rate means more money in your pocket.
